Best Fly Fishing

Fly fishing is no other type of fishing. It is peaceful, and some consider it a beautiful art. Many people never try flyfishing because they believe that it is complicated. Its not. You will need a fly fishing rod, fishing line, flies, a fishing vest, waders (thigh or chest), wading boots and a basket in which to place your catch. The important thing to remember is that in flyfishing, you actually wade into the water, so you need to have all of your gear on you.

When you are ready to cast your line, the top of your rod should be in the four oclock position, and you will need approximately twenty feet of line that runs past the tip of the rod. You hole the line between your index finger and the handle of the rod, and then you bend your elbow, raising your forearm, moving the rod from the starting position to the eleven oclock position, lifting the line from the water.

At that point, you pause, and let the line stretch behind you, and then cst forward. Again, allow the line to fully extend in front of you before going back to the four oclock position. When a fish takes your bait, you use your free hand (the hand holding the line, not the rod) to work the fish in.

Fly fishing is used to catch salmon, trout, bass, pike, carp, and many saltwater fish. The key to successful fly fishing is not only learning how to cast the line properly, but also in using fresh or artificial flies that resemble prey. The bait is not hooked. It is tied to the line using various materials that may include thread or feathers.

A fly fishing rod is not only lightweight, but it is also long. Remember that there are no sinkers used, so the line is the only thing that provides weight. Therefore, the line that is used is typically heavy, and comes in different weights depending on whether you want the fly to sink just below the surface or to float on top of the water. The rod is ideally made of graphite, and they come in a range of prices.

The flies are usually put on the line with a leader. The leader is typically six to nine feet long, and it is tapered on the end. The fine tip is called a tippet. The smallest tippit is 8x and the largest is 0x.

You can participate in dry fly fishing or wet fly fishing. If you are wet fly fishing, you are using a weighted line that allows your flie to sink just below the surface of the water. Dry flies float on top of the water, and are typically coated with a floatant.
